There is a tool in RDA that I have seen sitting there for years, but I've never really paid attention to it. There were a few times I looked at it quickly wondering what it was and tinkered with it a bit, but quickly moved on thinking I would check into it later. Well, I finally took some time to figure out what it does.
The tool is called "Text Variables".
It works at the section level, and you get to it by right-clicking on a non-populated part of the section and selecting "Text Variables".
This is a very simple tool that is designed for holding strings. You can type in a string (up to 170 characters) and it will be available as a variable that you can assign in ER. These Text Variables show up as TV in the ER assignment statement form.
Now, it's pretty easy to just go ahead and create string variables in ER and assign text to those variables, but this tool provides a central place to put this kind of text so you don't have to go searching through ER to find it. Keep in mind that the scope for these TV variables is at the section level.
Your feedback is welcome. Thanks for stopping by.

OneWorld Debug Log Commander
One of the big hassles as a JDE Developer comes when you have to debug a program. In order to do this you have to log off, make a change to the jde.ini file, then log back on. Frequently I am neck deep into researching an issue when this happens, and I have multiple screens open, UTB with usually more than one table open and columns moved around, etc. So it's a real pain having to log off to turn on debugging.
Well, there is a cool tool you can download for free from Everest Software International called OneWorld Debug Log Comannder. This tool has a few cool features, but the BIG advantage with using this tool is that it allows you to turn debugging on and off "on the fly". No more having to log off and back on. No more lost time having to once again setup UTB.
I use this software everywhere I go. Download it, give it a shot, and let me know what you think.
Some other cool features are that you can clear and view the jdedebug.log and jde.log files without having to find them. You can delete the 6 DD files (log off and back on is required for this). You can clear the cache, and there is also a julian date conversion tool.

Introduction
Hello, and welcome to my new blog. My goal here is to share numerous things such as JDE tips and tricks that I have learned over the years, JDE news, experiences on the job, and anything else I find interesting. This blog will focus on JDE from a Developer's point of view, but that doesn't mean I won't occasionally stray out into other areas as well.
I want this blog to be informative yet fun so please excuse the occasional bad attempt at humor. I appreciate any feedback offered.
Thanks for visiting!!
